Welcome to a new year for the Riding Club. As you can see from our diary of events, we have a busy year ahead. We hope to continue our successes from last year on the competition front and are looking to offer more rallies and specialist clinics for our members. Please let us know if you have any ideas for the club and we will do our best to implement them.

Christmas Show @ The Old Mill on Saturday 10th December.
What fun there was to be had at our Christmas Show, which is becoming something of a highlight of the year! The gymkhana ran smoothly with competitor numbers down from previous shows but was still great fun. The fancy dress attracted lots of competitors who had obviously put a lot of time and effort into their costumes. The jumping was very well supported, with lots of members enjoying themselves and taking home the rosettes and chocolate goodies. The jumping results were as follows:

2nd Stacey Arnold / Laura Sullivan – Jacko
3rd Sarah Roberts / Isobel Drouin – Pied Piper

TEAM NEWS
Team Showjumping @ Eaglesfield on Sunday 13th November 2005.
We sent two teams to this event, held locally by Wrotham and District Riding Club. The first class was a ‘normal’ team competition, where three out of four rounds within each team counted, followed by a jump off. The second class was a team scurry ( one round against the clock ). Riding for Dartford were:
Dartford Destoyers ~
Flair Sifleet – Lasna Buachaill 4 faults first round, clear in the scurry
Sarah Edmonds – Mr. Foyle Clover 4 faults first round, clear in the scurry
James Foley – Captain Chaos 4 faults in the first round, 8 in the scurry
Sara MacDonald – Kira Double clear!
This team were placed second in the team scurry.
Dartford Dazzlers ~
Clare Drury – Ellie May 4 faults in the first round, 8 in the scurry
Laura Sullivan – Brennan 4 faults in the first round
(then pulled his shoe off so sadly did not jump in the scurry)
Stacey Arnold – Jacko 4 faults in the first round, 8 in the scurry
Lacey Haward – Jack the Lad Double clear!
Well done to all and thank you for representing the club in what was a very long day.

Area 10 Team Showjumping @ The Golden Cross on Saturday 28th January
Juniors:
Jessica Sifleet – Willo the Wisp ( 6th place individually )
Hollie Leathem – Million Dollar Pony ( 2nd place individually ) - double clear
Stacey Arnold – Jacko ( 3rd place individually ) - double clear
This was our first junior team to compete at an area event for a while, where the standard is always very high. We were delighted with the girls, who achieved a super 3rd place in the team competition, out of 10 teams.
Seniors:
A team – Flair Sifleet – Lasna Buachaill ( 2nd place individually ) - double clear
Sara Mac Donald – Mayfield’s Final Fling
( kindly loaned for the day by Kate Lallemand ) - clear then 8 faults
Jackie Liddell – Brownbread Raven - clear then 4 faults
This team were 5th out of 23 teams.
B team:
Clare Drury – Mr. Foyle Clover
( stolen for the day…thanks Sarah! ) – clear then 4 faults
Laura Sullivan – Irish Dancer – clear then 4 faults
Leigh Kerr – Point Scally – 4 faults in the first round
Again, it was a very long day, and a long way from home……..but an excellent experience for all, and some really good results to take forward into 2006.
We intend entering as many team competitions as possible in 2006. We are a friendly bunch and do not take ourselves too seriously, and although we like to do well, we all realise that it isn't always possible. If you compete in any sphere and would like to know more about teams, please contact Clare on 07958 617648.
FORTHCOMING SHOWS
Dressage Series 1 @ The Old Mill on Sunday 12th March
Enclosed with this newsletter should be a copy of our Dressage Series schedule. Please enter early to avoid disappointment as the classes will close when full! Note that members get vastly reduced entries - £5 per class – and everyone else has to pay £9, which, we think is about the going rate! You can pay for the whole series with separately dated cheques if you wish. Help on the day, as ever, will be warmly welcomed, please let Flair know if you can help on 01474 708566.

Easter Show @ The Old Mill on Good Friday 14th April
(Schedule enclosed ) If you missed the Christmas Show, here’s another chance to have a bit of fun. The Easter show will follow the same format of Gymkhana, then Fancy Dress, then Jumping. So you have plenty of time to practise your bending, make your outfits and train your dog!! Please bear in mind that these shows do get really busy ( we hope! ), and the parking at The Old Mill will be solely used for trailers and boxes. Please try to share lorries where possible. Help is needed on the day, please contact Flair or Clare if you can assist.

TRAINING
Rallies with Flair Sifleet @ The Old Mill every other Saturday morning.
Training rallies with Flair in either flatwork, jumping or both continue to run fortnightly in the warmth of The Old Mill indoor school. These are still at the amazing cost of £10 per member, and there are usually 4 riders per hourly session. The Café is open for spectators, too, so your ‘groom’ can have a fry-up and a cup of tea in peace whilst watching you ride!

Show Jumping Training with Damian Charles
We have been offered some training with International Showjumper and British Nations Cup Team Member Damian Charles, if there is enough demand. If riders would be happy to ride in groups of 4, then his fee and hire of a school would work out to something in the region of £30 per session, per rider. We were thinking of maybe organising a training session once a month and aiming them at our ‘teamies’ , but all would be welcome. Dates and a venue are still to be decided. If you are interested, please contact Clare on 07958 617648.

Renewals………..!
Yes, its that time again! Unless you have just recently joined, your membership is up for renewal. A form is enclosed. Just to remind you, Dartford and District Riding Club is affiliated to British Riding Clubs. This means that all of our own competitions are fully insured and we have the opportunity to compete in official B.R.C. competitions. Team entry fees are paid for by the club. Our rallies and training are competitively priced, and third party public liability insurance covers members whilst riding in them. In addition to regular newsletters, members receive reduced entry fees at all of our competitions and ‘Rider’ magazine. Membership is open to all and remains at last year’s prices. Membership renewals would be appreciated by 1st March. Thank you. Clare

COLLECTING RING.
Please keep your distance whilst warming up. Wear a red ribbon on your horse’s tail if he / she is known to kick. Pass left to left. Jump the practice fence in one direction only, with the red marker on your right. Do not stand around in the warm up, you will be getting in people’s way!! Be helpful to our ring stewards by being ready to jump when called. Thank you.
PAIRS RELAY. 2’0”- 2’3”.
First rider passes through the start and commences round – jumps fences 1 – 8. On jumping fence 8, hands whip and horse/pony to second rider – anywhere in the arena. Second rider mounts, commences round and also jumps fences 1 – 8, passing through the finish to stop the clock. First rider may have 2 refusals, but on the third is eliminated – second rider must take over but needs to collect whip first and then continue first rider’s round before then beginning own round. If second rider is eliminated for a third refusal, first rider may come and take over in the same way ( providing he /she has not been eliminated in their first round! ). Knock downs are penalised by 4 faults. Up to 2 refusals just waste time but are not penalised. Rider or horse falls will be eliminated.
The fastest CLEAR combined rounds win.
HORSE AND HOUND. 2’0”-2’3”.
Please keep all dogs safely on a lead unless in the confines of the arena. Any aggressive or ‘unsafe’ dogs will be asked to leave the showground. Please poop scoop after your dog!
First horse and rider complete set horse course, against the clock. Up to 2 refusals will not be penalised, but will waste time. Horses will be eliminated after the third refusal. After completing the horse round, the rider dismounts and hands horse to an assistant, who is waiting with the dog. Rider then guides dog around the set dog course. Refusals and knock downs will be penalised as per horse rules. Time is taken from when horse and rider go through the start to when dog goes through the finish. Fastest CLEAR combined time wins.
SCURRY 2’3”-2’6”. Drawn order.
